Freedom

What is freedom?

Mainstream definition of freedom: “To be able to move toward what I want with as few barriers as possible.”

As much as God was invested in the literal freedom of his people, it was their spiritual freedom he was after - and this can only happen by addressing sin

Sin: Patterns of thought, belief, and action which come from a desire for independence from God and to have ultimate control of our own lives

Traditionally, the head of the feast would say something like: “This is the bread of our affliction; we do this in remembrance of Egypt.”

Jesus says, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

Traditionally, the head of the feast would say something like this: “This is the cup of our freedom by the blood of the lamb.”

Jesus says, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you.”

Grace is the experience of being shown love and compassion that you have not earned.

Jesus is offering an invitation to Peter—because it is only in light of his sin that he will ever understand grace.
