Why do you need Jesus?


Genesis 15:1-12; 17-18a (end verse 18 right after the word “Abram”)


Abram

Ancient mesopotamian man with a legacy of idol worship

Called by God to be part of his plan to create a nation which would bless all the earth


Genesis 15:1-6


“Abram believed the Lord and he credited it to him as righteousness.”


Genesis 15:7-8


Abram is struggling with lies that (1) his life is meaningless and (2) God will not come through


Genesis 15:9-11


Terms of the Aisle of Death: “If I do not honor our agreement, may I be as these animals. May I be slaughtered, disgraced, ripped apart, and laid bare.”


Genesis 15:12


Genesis 15:17-18a


When God walks the Aisle of Death, he is saying, “If I do not honor our agreement, may I be slaughtered, disgraced, torn apart, and laid bare.”


God walked the Aisle of Death alone. In doing this, he is saying, “Abram, even if YOU do not honor our agreement, may I be slaughtered, disgraced, torn apart, and laid bare.”


Isaiah 50:7-9
